The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co. is seeking a highly motivated lawyer to join its nationally recognized US Trusts & Estates Legal team.

As the US Trusts & Estates Attorney – Vice President, Assistant General Counsel in our Trust & Estates legal team, you will be part of a small team of experienced trust and estate lawyers who interact daily with JPMorgan’s Trust & Estate professionals on a wide variety of topics. You will also have the opportunity to become the team’s specialist in one or more focused areas, including tax, charitable, digital or regulatory matters that impact the trusts and estates business. You will have the immediate opportunity and responsibility to interact with JPMorgan’s experienced Trust & Estates professionals while part of a small team of experienced Trusts & Estate lawyers in a collegial and dynamic working environment that covers trusts, estates, tax, charitable, regulatory issues and initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Providing legal advice and support to the US Trusts & Estates business, with particular emphasis on researching and analyzing various US state statutes, common law and state specific variations of uniform laws applicable to trusts and estates administration, as well as regulatory issues under 12 CFR Part 9.
  • Analyzing and interpreting estate and trust account documentation and draft forms of documents to be used in estate and trust administration.
  • Analyzing issues related to charitable fiduciary accounts, oil & gas, minerals, and income, estate, gift, and GST tax matters with respect to U.S. fiduciary accounts.
  • Managing engagements of external counsel and actively engaging on analysis and deliverables.
  • Researching, analyzing and advising on laws and regulations applicable to the Private Bank’s US corporate trustee entities.
  • Working closely with members of the US Trusts & Estates legal team, the business, other members of the legal department, and other support and control functions (e.g., Compliance & Risk) on various projects and initiatives that affect the US Trusts & Estates business.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

  • Juris Doctor or educational equivalent required (i.e., law degree)
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant trust and estate law firm, financial institution or comparable experience
  • A commitment to practicing in and fostering a diverse, inclusive, supportive and respectful work environment.
  • Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in in the state in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and escalate appropriately

Attorney candidates must follow all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
