Associate General Counsel
New York City Council
The New York City Council is seeking to fill an Associate General Counsel position in its Office of the General Counsel.
SALARY RANGE:$110,000 to $120,000
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in the representation of City Council and Council Members in a wide variety of litigation matters, including challenges to the validity of local laws, separation of powers issues, First Amendment claims, and employment law disputes.Provide legal counsel and guidance related to ethics, conflicts of interest, procurement, transactions, and compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies affecting the City Council.Handle other matters in the General Counsel’s Office as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Must possess a J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in New York State.6+ years of litigation experience in federal and state court (which can include judicial clerkships).General knowledge about New York City government and/or local government issues.Stellar analytical, brief-writing, and written communication skills.Strong organizational skills and an inclination to be proactive.Demonstrated competence and confidence to operate with credibility at senior levels.Ability to rapidly prioritize as well as execute while exhibiting good judgment.Must possess a collegial and collaborative mindset.
